

Delfina Merino was born on October 15, 1989 in Vicente López. From a very young age she had contact with sports within the Banco Provincia club, a club in which her family has a long history. During her childhood she practiced several sports such as hockey, tennis and swimming, but her passion for hockey was always the strongest so she decided to dedicate herself to it completely.
Since 2007 until today she has been a player in the club's first division.
In 2013, together with her team, she achieved promotion to the top category for the first time in the club's history, and in 2015 they were crowned metropolitan champions, also for the first time in the club's history.
Delfina was one of the main pillars and references in both feats.






Her career in the Argentine Hockey Team “Las Leonas” began in 2009, being called up by coach Gabriel Minadeo, when Delfina was just 19 years old. In the following process, led by coach Carlos Retegui, Delfina became a regular player of LAS LEONAS to the point of being part of the team that became champion in the 2010 Rosario World Championship.




In February 2012, also in the city of Rosario, she and her team obtained the gold medal in the Champions Trophy, a title she repeated in this same tournement throughout her career 5 times.
In 2015 she won a silver medal in the Pan American Games and a gold medal in the World League. That year, in addition, she was nominated for the first time by the International Hockey Federation in the shortlist of the five best players in the world. The same nomination was repeated in 2017 and this time Delfina was the winner.
Consequently in February 2018 she traveled to Berlin to receive her award given by the FIH as the best player in the world.
Throughout her career she represented Argentina in three Olympic Games. In both London 2012 and Tokyo 2021 she won two Olympic Silver Medals, while in Rio 2016 she obtained the Olympic diploma together with Las Leonas.




Delfina has also played in European Hockey Leagues such as the Netherlands and Belgium. She was part of the SCHC and Kampong first team in the Netherlands while in Brussels she played for the Royal Leopold.


Parallel to her sports career, Delfina studied Law at the University of Buenos Aires, achieving her university degree in 2020. At the same time, she has displayed great social involvement by helping in a sustained and committed manner with Las Trincheras in a soup kitchen in the province of Santiago del Estero.
